Even Predators Are Good Mothers

When this month's Anthro Challenge was announced, one trait that immediately came to my mind was how mother alligators protect their young. I feel like I read somewhere they even keep the young in their mouth sometimes... you would think that it would be dangerous, but it's really just a way to fiercely protect them! I thought that was interesting. I also loved the opportunity to draw a reptile. I don't do that much, but they're fun!

Nice piece of art and you are mostly correct. When the eggs hatch the babies cannot get out of the nest by themselves, so when she hears them crying out she opens the nest and removes them with her mouth. Afterwards she releases them in the water, at which point the babies and their mother go their separate ways. I think they are the only reptiles that do this also. :)
